A word from our founder, Jared…

Hele Mua is built by a team of people who call Hawaiʻi home. We’re a real mix plate of backgrounds — Roosevelt, McKinley, Punahou, and Honokaʻa grads, plus Kanishka who brings his perspective from Sri Lanka. Our story is rooted in the communities we grew up in, and it’s shaped by the experiences we carry with us.

Most of our board are proud UH Manoa grads, with degrees ranging from Travel Industry Management to computer science, engineering, and criminal justice. Our paths are different, but what connects us is how we use that knowledge to give back to Hawaii.

At the end of the day, what ties us together is passion. We’ve all seen the issues facing our islands firsthand, and that’s why we show up — to run cleanups, share culture, and take care of this place. Hele Mua is a local nonprofit, powered by local people who believe in malama aina and building a more sustainable future for Hawaii.
